SPECIAL
COURT FOR SIERRA LEONE OPENS COURTHOUSE

The
Special Court for Sierra Leone today opened
its ultra-modern Courthouse at the Special
Court's Complex at New England Ville in
Freetown. His Excellency the President,
Alhaji Dr Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, declared the
Courthouse open and unveiled the plaque
commemorating the solemn occasion.

Kabbah Joins International
Women's Day Celebrations In Makeni
President Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah
has joined thousands of Sierra Leonean women
in the Northern Regional Headquarter town
of Makeni Monday 8th March 2004 in observance
of the International Women's Day as well
as launching the report on Building a Women's
Law Reform Agenda. The agenda, put together
by the Ministry of Social Welfare in collaboration
with the International Rescue Committee
and the National law Reform Commission,
includes the reform of local laws adversely
affecting women and girl-children in Sierra
Leone

Ghana's
47th Independence Anniversary Celebrated
..The
"Made-In-Ghana Goods Exhibition"
currently underway at the Atlantic Hall
of the National Stadium in Freetown was
part of a series of activities marking Ghana's
47th Independence Anniversary in Sierra
Leone. President Kabbah who gave the keynote
address to mark Ghana's Independence Anniversary,
also performed the cutting of the tape at
the exhibition's opening ceremony last Saturday,
6 March 2004. He made reference to the Economic
Community of West African State's (ECOWAS)
objective for an open sub-regional market
and the free movement of peoples of all
ECOWAS countries within the sub-region.

Kabbah Opens 5-Star Kimbima Hotel
At Aberdeen
.
A
significant milestone in Sierra Leonean
entrepreneurship was achieved last Saturday,
following President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah's
official opening of one of Freetown's most
prestigious and luxurious hotels, the Kimbima
Hotel, located at Aberdeen on the Atlantic
seashore in the western part of Freetown.

Kabbah At Military Athletics Competition
..President
Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah has commended
the highly positive demonstration of cordiality
between members of the Republic of Sierra
Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) and their civilian
counterparts.
Speaking shortly after he declared the RSLAF's
annual athletics competition open at the
National Stadium in Freetown on Thursday,
4 March 2004, the Commander-in-Chief, who
was also grand chief patron at the event,
underlined the significance of having both
the military and the civilian population
co-existing amicably.

Kabbah Celebrates 72nd Birthday Anniversary
in Kabala 
Residents
of Koinadugu District were manifestly thrilled
by President Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah's
arrival in Kabala over the weekend, Sunday
15th February, to celebrate his first birthday
ever outside Freetown since he became President
in 1996. Thousands of locals from every
part of the district, including Parliamentarians,
Paramount Chiefs, section chiefs, school
children, cultural dancers, women's groups,
members of the SLPP young generation, and
groups of banner waving well-wishers braved
the midday sun in their colourful array
of ashoebe, singing as the President touched
down at the Kabala Secondary School football
field.

Freetown
Big Market Re-opened
By President Kabbah
The one hundred and forty three-year old
Wallace Johnson Street Market, commonly
referred to as "Freetown Big Market",
was among the most notable historic edifices
in the Freetown capital that was gutted
by fire after rebel arsonists stormed the
city centre on Thursday January 7th 1999.

Kabbah and VP Berewa End Kono and Kailahun
Provincial Tour
The
President, Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah,
and Vice President Solomon Berewa returned
to Freetown Monday 9 February, concluding
a four-day extensive visit to Kono and Kailahun
Districts in Sierra Leone's eastern region.
Prominent among the important towns covered
by the visit were Yengema and Koidu in the
Kono District, Koindu, Kailahun Town, Pendembu
(the President's birthplace), Siama, Manowa,
Bunumbu, Segbwema, Baiwallah, Daru, Jojoima,
Bomaru, which experienced the first gunshots
that heralded the start of the civil conflict
on 23 March 1991, and the President's maternal
birthplace of Mobai.

Six
Children Benefit From Lady Patricia Kabbah
Scholarship Awards
Five
girl children and one boy child drawn from
various secondary schools across the country
have been awarded scholarships at the fifth
annual presentation ceremony of the Lady
Patricia Kabbah Trust Fund Awards for deserving
children. The Lady Patricia Kabbah Trust
Fund Award established in memory of the
late First Lady targets especially girl
children with the highest scores at the
National Primary School Examination (NPSE)
every year at regional level.

Sierra
Leone's Disarmament, Demobilisation and
Reintegration Programme Ends
The President, Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah,
in his capacity as chairman of the National
Committee for Disarmament, Demobilisation
and Reintegration (NCDDR), has declared
the official end of the Disarmament, Demobilisation
and Reintegration exercise, as well as the
closure of the NCDDR Executive Secretariat
to be effective from 31 March 2004 on completion
of final wrap up activities.

Kabbah Rescues Stranded Pilgrims
Following
their failed attempt to perform this year's
pilgrimage to the Holy Land of Mecca, Saudi
Arabia, a total of one hundred and three
intending Sierra Leonean pilgrims have finally
been flown back home, along with the remains
of one pilgrim Madam Khadijah Jalloh, who
passed away while stranded in transit in
Abuja, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Representatives of the Koidu Holdings Company
(Branch Energy) have briefed President Ahmad
Tejan Kabbah about progress made so far
in the implementation of their USD 60 million
Kimberlite mining project in Kono District,
eastern Sierra Leone.

Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, another

consultants are currently in Freetown

Erstwhile Commander of the International
Military Advisory and Training Team (IMATT),
Brigadier Adrian Freer, who was also the
British Military Adviser to the Government
of Sierra Leone, has been replaced after
a twelve-month stint in the country.

Bank's new branch in Makeni, headquarters

official opening of the bank's branch the
President was crowned by the chiefs and
elders as Honorary Paramount Chief of the

Commission Presents Five-Year Strategic
Plan
The
Director of Prevention and Sensitisation
in the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC),
Mrs. Neneh Daboh, has officially presented
copies of the ACC's five-year Strategic
Plan to President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah at
a brief ceremony held at the Hill Station

Continuing
his periodic inspection of "Operation
PEBU" sites across the country, President
Ahmad Tejan Kabbah has acclaimed the efforts
of soldiers of the 6th battalion of the

in Moyamba, during his two-legged visit
to the southern district yesterday.
