SPECIAL COURT FOR SIERRA LEONE OPENS COURTHOUSE

The Special Court for Sierra Leone today opened its ultra-modern Courthouse at the Special Court's Complex at New England Ville in Freetown. His Excellency the President, Alhaji Dr Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, declared the Courthouse open and unveiled the plaque commemorating the solemn occasion.

President Kabbah Joins International Women's Day Celebrations In Makeni

President Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah has joined thousands of Sierra Leonean women in the Northern Regional Headquarter town of Makeni Monday 8th March 2004 in observance of the International Women's Day as well as launching the report on Building a Women's Law Reform Agenda. The agenda, put together by the Ministry of Social Welfare in collaboration with the International Rescue Committee and the National law Reform Commission, includes the reform of local laws adversely affecting women and girl-children in Sierra Leone

Ghana's 47th Independence Anniversary CelebratedPresident Kabbah with Ghanaian High Commissioner Kabral Blay-Amihere

..The "Made-In-Ghana Goods Exhibition" currently underway at the Atlantic Hall of the National Stadium in Freetown was part of a series of activities marking Ghana's 47th Independence Anniversary in Sierra Leone. President Kabbah who gave the keynote address to mark Ghana's Independence Anniversary, also performed the cutting of the tape at the exhibition's opening ceremony last Saturday, 6 March 2004. He made reference to the Economic Community of West African State's (ECOWAS) objective for an open sub-regional market and the free movement of peoples of all ECOWAS countries within the sub-region.

President Kabbah Opens 5-Star Kimbima Hotel At Aberdeen

A significant milestone in Sierra Leonean entrepreneurship was achieved last Saturday, following President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah's official opening of one of Freetown's most prestigious and luxurious hotels, the Kimbima Hotel, located at Aberdeen on the Atlantic seashore in the western part of Freetown.

President Kabbah At Military Athletics Competition

..President Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah has commended the highly positive demonstration of cordiality between members of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) and their civilian counterparts.
Speaking shortly after he declared the RSLAF's annual athletics competition open at the National Stadium in Freetown on Thursday, 4 March 2004, the Commander-in-Chief, who was also grand chief patron at the event, underlined the significance of having both the military and the civilian population co-existing amicably.

President Kabbah Celebrates 72nd Birthday Anniversary in Kabala President Kabbah cutting his birthday cake with twin sisters of the late S.B.Marah, Tinah and Dondor

Residents of Koinadugu District were manifestly thrilled by President Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah's arrival in Kabala over the weekend, Sunday 15th February, to celebrate his first birthday ever outside Freetown since he became President in 1996. Thousands of locals from every part of the district, including Parliamentarians, Paramount Chiefs, section chiefs, school children, cultural dancers, women's groups, members of the SLPP young generation, and groups of banner waving well-wishers braved the midday sun in their colourful array of ashoebe, singing as the President touched down at the Kabala Secondary School football field.

Freetown Big Market Re-opened By President Kabbah

The one hundred and forty three-year old Wallace Johnson Street Market, commonly referred to as "Freetown Big Market", was among the most notable historic edifices in the Freetown capital that was gutted by fire after rebel arsonists stormed the city centre on Thursday January 7th 1999.

President Kabbah and VP Berewa End Kono and Kailahun Provincial Tour

The President, Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, and Vice President Solomon Berewa returned to Freetown Monday 9 February, concluding a four-day extensive visit to Kono and Kailahun Districts in Sierra Leone's eastern region. Prominent among the important towns covered by the visit were Yengema and Koidu in the Kono District, Koindu, Kailahun Town, Pendembu (the President's birthplace), Siama, Manowa, Bunumbu, Segbwema, Baiwallah, Daru, Jojoima, Bomaru, which experienced the first gunshots that heralded the start of the civil conflict on 23 March 1991, and the President's maternal birthplace of Mobai.

Six Children Benefit From Lady Patricia Kabbah Scholarship Awards

Five girl children and one boy child drawn from various secondary schools across the country have been awarded scholarships at the fifth annual presentation ceremony of the Lady Patricia Kabbah Trust Fund Awards for deserving children. The Lady Patricia Kabbah Trust Fund Award established in memory of the late First Lady targets especially girl children with the highest scores at the National Primary School Examination (NPSE) every year at regional level.

Sierra Leone's Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration Programme Ends

The President, Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, in his capacity as chairman of the National Committee for Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (NCDDR), has declared the official end of the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration exercise, as well as the closure of the NCDDR Executive Secretariat to be effective from 31 March 2004 on completion of final wrap up activities.

President Kabbah Rescues Stranded Pilgrims

Following their failed attempt to perform this year's pilgrimage to the Holy Land of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, a total of one hundred and three intending Sierra Leonean pilgrims have finally been flown back home, along with the remains of one pilgrim Madam Khadijah Jalloh, who passed away while stranded in transit in Abuja, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Rutile And Kimberlite Mining Groups Call On President Kabbah

Representatives of the Koidu Holdings Company (Branch Energy) have briefed President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah about progress made so far in the implementation of their USD 60 million Kimberlite mining project in Kono District, eastern Sierra Leone.

Following up on last September's trade mission to Freetown undertaken by the British-based Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, another delegation of UK trade and investment consultants are currently in Freetown to lay the foundations for possible business ventures in Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone Commercial Bank Opens New Branch In Makeni
President Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah on Saturday 17 January 2004, opened Sierra Leone Commercial Bank's new branch in Makeni, headquarters of the Northern Province. But before the official opening of the bank's branch the President was crowned by the chiefs and elders as Honorary Paramount Chief of the Bombali District and received the title "Paramount Chief Bai Bureh N'kolo I"

Anti-Corruption Commission Presents Five-Year Strategic Plan

The Director of Prevention and Sensitisation in the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Mrs. Neneh Daboh, has officially presented copies of the ACC's five-year Strategic Plan to President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah at a brief ceremony held at the Hill Station Lodge Monday 12 January, 2004.

President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah has issued a stern warning to Tribal Heads appointed in the Western Area to desist from the "illicit practice of holding courts, imposing fines, arresting and locking up of so-called offenders".
