Kabbah In Guinea, Nigeria and Delivers Keynote
Address On Peace In Tripoli, Libya
President
Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah left Freetown
on Monday 19th January 2004 to witness the inauguration
ceremony of President Lansana Conte of Guinea
in Conakry following the latter's recent re-election
as President.
After
the ceremony in Conakry, President Kabbah headed
for Abuja, the Federal Capital of Nigeria, where
he took part in an official book launch by Chief
Emeka Anyaoku, erstwhile Secretary-General of
the Commonwealth. In his
address in Abuja, President Kabbah referred
to Chief Anyaoku as an accomplished African
internationalist and statesman who deserved
the nickname "Mr. Commonwealth," considering
his long and meritorious years of service to
that organisation as well as the exemplary leadership
he provided as its Chief Executive Officer.
President Kabbah left Nigeria on Wednesday 21st
January for Tripoli, Libya.
While
in Libya, President Kabbah was official guest
of Libyan Leader Muammar Gadaffi and delivered
a Keynote
speech titled "The Role Of Religion
In The Peace Process In Sierra Leone" during
a Public Lecture at the World Islamic Call Society
University in Tripoli.
President
Kabbah returned to Sierra Leone on Tuesday 27th
January 2004. At a short briefing ceremony at
the Presidential Lodge in Freetown, the President
spoke about Libya's interest in promoting development
co-operation ties with Sierra Leone, especially
in the areas of petroleum exports and marketing,
water bottling, the energy sector with respect
to the completion of the Bumbuna Hydro-electric
project, security and the provision of at least
two ferries to facilitate transportation mainly
between Lungi and Freetown.
