RELEASE The Report of the Commission for Africa, established by the British Prime Minister, Mr Tony Blair, in 2004, was presented yesterday, Thursday 10 March 2005 to His Excellency the President, Alhaji Dr Ahmad Tejan Kabbah by the British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone. The Commission is made up of eminent international personalities, the majority of whom are from Africa. The Report has been very well received by His Excellency the President as it takes a new and fresh look at the challenges of development, economic growth, poverty reduction and trade in Africa. The Commission's Report is based on a careful and detailed analysis of all the evidence and draws on the results of a very extensive consultation process, particularly in Africa. The Report sets out a solid Plan of Action to tackle the burning and urgent issues facing all countries in Africa. The British Prime Minister has requested the sincere comments and reaction of our country on the several and various recommendations made in the Report. His Excellency the President has therefore established a Task Force of eminent Sierra Leoneans with relevant expertise and experience, to study the Report of the Commission and present their comments to His Excellency the President. It is hoped that the work of the Task Force will provide the basis to structure the best modality for our country to participate in and benefit from this new development partnership between Africa and the G8 countries in the developed world.
