President
Kabbah at Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting
(CHOGM) in Abuja, Federal Republic of Nigeria
The
President, Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, was
among some fifty-two Heads of State and Government
who attended this year's CHOGM in Abuja, Federal
Republic of Nigeria.
The
meeting was officially opened by Her Majesty
Queen Elizabeth II, and host President Olusegun
Obasanjo had his country Nigeria entertain their
guests to some of the most lavish and spectacular
performances and hospitality throughout the
meeting. By any standard it was a well-organised,
superbly co-ordinated and a successful Summit
of leaders.
Apart
from the politics of the Commonwealth, leaders
devoted time to real issues such as developing
public - private partnerships and the forging
of strategic alliances among and between member-states
of the Commonwealth. Development co-operation
still stands out as one of the organisation's
most important thrusts.
Between Monday 1 December to Thursday 4 December,
2003 a number of Private-Public Dialogue Round
Tables with speakers drawn from the public and
private sectors was held, at which some Heads
of State were called upon to make keynote speeches.
The discussions ranged from topics such as "challenges
of Long-term Infrastructure Finance; Corporate
Governance; Investment and Partnerships; International
Trade; Nepad; Combating HIV/AIDS; to Improving
the Business Environment: Combating Corruption".
On
Thursday 4 December 2003 at 10.00 am Sierra
Leone's President, Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah,
took the rostrum to make his keynote address
on "combating corruption".
