Mission Statement:

Develop policies and programmes for Social Welfare, Gender and Children's Affairs Children's Affairs Gender and Children Affairs by undertaking the following major responsibilities.

  • Social Development
  • Welfare Services i.e., care for the aged, disability issues etc.
  • Relations with Religious bodies
  • Ports Welfare
  • Formulation of national polices for the empowerment of young men and woman to develop their potential creativity and skills as productive and dynamic members of society and the promotion of national values.
  • To address the problem of drug abuse among the youth population in collaboration with other relevant government and non-governmental Institutions.
  • Government's machinery for initiating policies relating to gender and children.
  • Government's machinery for monitoring and co-ordinating of all activitves including existing structures, relating to women and children.
  • To co-ordinate efforts of NGOs, UNICEF and other Donor agencies in addressing the needs of children and women, including those affected by the war.
  • Raise awareness/recognition of gender gap and take positive steps to narrow gender disparities, child abuse, violence against women and marginalization in the In the Society.
  • Collaborate with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation to address the issues of maternal mortality and infant and child mortality and to prepare and maintain statistical data on children, gender and other reproductive health activities.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Ministries of Education, Science and Technology, and Youth and Sports and other specialized local and international agencies in addressing the educational needs of children and women.
  • Mobilisation of resources both local and international in support of gender and children related projects.
  • Collaboration with relevant Government Ministries and National and International Organisations/Institutions.
