Of LURD Reconcile In Freetown
In
view of the disarmament and official declaration
of the end of the war in Liberia, which will
take place in Monrovia, Liberia on 3rd November,
2004, the senior membership of LURD have finally
agreed to hold discussions and reconcile any
differences among their membership as part of
the overall process of consolidating the peace
in Liberia.
The
group met in Freetown from Saturday 30th to
Sunday 31st October, 2004 to have consultation
with President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah in order to
resolve their differences and lay the basis
for their continued participation in consolidating
the peace process in Liberia. Under the Chairmanship
of His Excellency, President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah,
the senior members of LURD were able to reconcile
their differences and resolved to work as a
united entity.
Among
other things agreed was the transformation of
LURD into a political movement, which would
also map out strategies for addressing the humanitarian
needs of ex-combatants and the rehabilitation
and reconstruction of areas destroyed during
the conflict.
The
reconciliation meeting ended with the signing
of a memorandum
of understanding
