As
moves to strengthen the decentralization process
and the resuscitation of Local Government District
Councils continue throughout the country, four
newly appointed Local Government Commissioners
and a Chairman of the Local Government Service
Commission have taken their Oath of office in
the presence of the Head of State, President
Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, at his Hill Station
office in Freetown.
Presenting
the five appointees to the President at the
swearing-in ceremony, the Minister of Local
Government and Community Development, Mr.
Sidique Brima said that the newly-appointed
Commissioners have gone through the procedures
for appointment and have been approved by
Parliament.
After

admonished them to realize the enormous task
ahead of them, stating that their appointments
mean that they are going to be managers of
the human resources of the District Councils
and because of this, their appointments have
been strictly based on relevant work experience,
and on the fact that they are persons who
are trainable and understand what career development
is. He advised the Chairman to design a proper
job description so that every one will know
exactly what is expected of them, as their
performance will be strictly evaluated.
The
newly appointed Chairman of the Local Government
Service Commission, Mr. David Minah, on behalf
of his colleagues Commissioners, thanked President
Kabbah for their appointment and the fatherly
advice he has given them. He said they are
aware of the enormity of the task ahead of
them, and promised to do their best to justify
that the job assigned to them was based on
their ability to do the job. Mr. Minah however
appealed to President Kabbah for support until
they are able to stand on their own, as they
are yet a newly born baby.
