Liberian
Head Of State Visits Sierra Leone
The
Head of State and Chairman of the National Transitional
Government of Liberia, Charles Gyude Bryant
has ended a two-day working visit to Sierra
Leone.
Chairman
Bryant and his delegation were received by the
President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, His
Excellency,Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah at
the UNAMSIL helipad in Freetown on Wednesday,18th
August,2004.
The
two Heads of State held formal bilateral discussions
on issues bordering on the state of affairs
in their two countries,with particular reference
to the peace process in Liberia and the fostering
of brotherly relations between the two countries.
Chairman
Bryant also held discussions with the former
Executive Secretary of the National Committee
for Disarmament, Demobilisation, and Reintegration
(NCDDR), Dr. Francis Kaikai, and the Commissioner
of the National Commission from Social Action
(NaCSA), Mr. Kanja Sesay, with a view to providing
a caveat for the Liberian reintegration process
based on the Sierra Leone experience of the
disarmament, demobilization, reintegration and
rehabilitation programmes recently concluded.
The
Head of State and Chairman of the National Transitional
Government of Liberia also met with a cross-section
of Liberian nationals in Sierra Leone. During
their meeting, Chairman Bryant urged his compatriots
to return home and help take part in the peace
process and the rebuilding of their war ravaged
country. He informed them that there is now
absolute peace in Liberia and that over 60,000
former combatants have been disarmed. The Chairman
also encouraged them to return home and actively
participate in the forthcoming Presidential
Elections which have been slated for October
2005.
At
the end of the visit of the Liberian Head of
State, a joint Communiqué
was issued on behalf of the two Governments
of Liberia and Sierra Leone.
