The Head of State and Chairman of the National Transitional Government of Liberia, Charles Gyude Bryant has ended a two-day working visit to Sierra Leone.

Chairman Bryant and his delegation were received by the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, His Excellency,Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah at the UNAMSIL helipad in Freetown on Wednesday,18th August,2004.

The two Heads of State held formal bilateral discussions on issues bordering on the state of affairs in their two countries, with particular reference to the peace process in Liberia and the fostering of brotherly relations between the two countries.

Chairman Bryant also held discussions with the former Executive Secretary of the National Committee for Disarmament, Demobilisation, and Reintegration (NCDDR), Dr. Francis Kaikai, and the Commissioner of the National Commission from Social Action (NaCSA), Mr. Kanja Sesay, with a view to providing a caveat for the Liberian reintegration process based on the Sierra Leone experience of the disarmament, demobilization, reintegration and rehabilitation programmes recently concluded.

The Head of State and Chairman of the National Transitional Government of Liberia also met with a cross-section of Liberian nationals in Sierra Leone. During their meeting, Chairman Bryant urged his compatriots to return home and help take part in the peace process and the rebuilding of their war ravaged country. He informed them that there is now absolute peace in Liberia and that over 60,000 former combatants have been disarmed. The Chairman also encouraged them to return home and actively participate in the forthcoming Presidential Elections which have been slated for October 2005.

At the end of the visit of the Liberian Head of State, a joint Communiqué was issued on behalf of the two Governments of Liberia and Sierra Leone.
