Sierra
Leone Cement Factory (LEOCEM) To Increase Investment
By Yusuf Alghali
The
Norwegian-born Chief Executive of Leocem Limited,
Mr. Gunner Sylvesten, has told President Kabbah
at his Hill Station Lodge about plans to significantly
increase the volume of investment in the local
production of cement, a move that is also expected
to expand the cement factory's production capacity
as well as create opportunities for new jobs.
LEOCEM
has been in the cement production business in
Freetown since the late 1960's and the current
peaceful and stable climate in post war Sierra
Leone has, according to Mr. Sylvesten, encouraged
the company's decision to invest
more funds and expand production.
Mr.
Sylvesten who was accompanied by the Minister
of Trade and Industry, Dr. Kadi Sesay, disclosed
plans to increase the use of local raw materials
and manpower in their future production of cement
in Sierra Leone. This disclosure came in response
to President Kabbah's request in that regard,
who lauded LEOCEM's decision to expand their investment
in local cement production.
