Kabbah In Kono and Kenema
The
President, Alhaji Dr Ahmad Tejan Kabbah,
has returned to Freetown from a one-and-half-day
visit to Kono and Kenema where he officially
inaugurated a primary school, an islamic
centre and a lawn tennis court constructed
by the third Pakistani contingent serving
in Unamsil (PAKBATT 8), as part of their
humanitarian effort to contribute to
the social development of communities
within their areas of deployment.

United
States Gets New Embassy Complex In Freetown

The President, Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan
Kabbah, together with United States
Ambassador to Sierra Leone Peter Chaveas
and Director for Overseas Building Operations
of the US Department of State, General
Charles Williams, performed on Friday
21 May 2004 the groundbreaking ceremony
for the construction of a new embassy
complex in Freetown.
The
fifty million dollar embassy complex
is to be constructed at the foot of
Leicester Peak with a target completion
timeframe of twenty-four months in April
2006.

Mano
River Union Reactivated
A one-day summit of Heads of State of
the Mano River Union was held in the
Guinean Capital, Conakry with the three
leaders of the Mano River Union States,
Presidents Lansana Conte of Guinea,
Ahmad Tejan Kabbah and Chairman Gyude
Bryant of Liberia expressing their commitment
to support all initiatives aimed at
the promotion of confidence-building
measures and security in the sub-region
in order to strengthen cooperation amongst
member countries and speed up their
integration and sustainable development.

Kabbah Tours The North
The
President, His Excellency Dr. Alhaji
Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, returned to Freetown
Monday 17th May 2004 from a three-day
visit to parts of the Bombali, Tonkolili
and Koinadugu districts.
The purpose of the visit was to sensitize
the people about the importance of the
forthcoming local government elections
and to clarify any misconception people
may have about the elections.

Visits Sierra Leone
Commonwealth Secretary-General the Rt.
Hon. Don McKinnon is in Freetown, Sierra
Leone on an official visit.
On
Thursday 6 May 2004 the Head of the
Commonwealth Secretariat paid a courtesy
call on President Alhaji Dr Ahmad Tejan
Kabbah at the Presidential Lodge at
Hill Station where they discussed a
wide range of issues about the Commonwealth.

Sierra
Leone Commercial Bank Pays Dividend
The
Sierra Leone Commercial Bank has presented
a dividend payment of Le 1.3bn to government,
its sole shareholder. A copy of the
bank's annual report and accounts for
the year 2003 were also presented to
the President at a ceremony, which took
place at the lodge.
Chairman of the National Privatisation
Commission, A R Turay said this year's
dividend is twenty-five million Leones
higher compared to last year's.

Kenema
High Court
Opens
Continuing his series of nationwide
launching and commissioning of newly
constructed and rehabilitated infrastructure,
President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah officially
opened the new Kenema dual purpose High
Court building, which many have described
as an architectural first class job
on Friday 30th April 2004
The erection of the court is part of
the British-assisted Law Development
Project for Sierra Leone that began
in January 2001.

Rokel
Commercial Bank Presents Dividend
The
outgoing Chairman of the Rokel Commercial
Bank, formerly Barclays Bank Limited,
Mr. A. Dunstan M'cormack, has officially
presented to President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah
a cheque worth Le. 1.998,743,000 (one
billion, nine hundred and ninety eight
million, seven hundred and forty three
thousand) being 51% dividend payable
to government for the year ending 31st
December 2003.

As

Sierra
Leone's 43rd Independence Anniversary
On
the occasion
of the 43rd Independence Day Anniversary
of Sierra Leone today 27th April 2004,
President Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah,
travelled by helicopter with Vice President
Solomon Berewa to Gbangbatoke in the Moyamba
District, birthplace of the late Sir Albert
Michael Margai KCMG, second Prime Minister
of Sierra Leone from 1964 to 1967, where
a graveside service was held in honour
of the deceased.

The alumni association of the Government
Secondary School Kenema (GSSK), has inducted

Greek
Envoy Presents Credentials
The
newly accredited Greek ambassador to Sierra
Leone, His Excellency Mr. Christoforos
Giovas, has said that the government of
the Hellenic Republic would include Sierra
Leonean military officers in its military
scholarship scheme by the next academic
year. Ambassador Giovas, who made the
commitment on the occasion of the presentation
of his credentials at the Presidential
Lodge Tuesday, 6th April 2004, indicated
that proposals in respect of the scholarships
would be made shortly after returning
to his base in Abuja, Nigeria.

President
Ahmad Tejan Kabbah has made public his
displeasure about the non-performance
over the past years of the board and management
of the Sierra Leone Telecommunications
Company (Sierratel), charging that corporate
financial malpractices had even made it
impossible for the company to pay dividends
to government since he became President
in 1996.

Kabbah Commissions New Rice Mill In Bo
Farmers
in Bo District have made a significant
contribution in response to President
Ahmad Tejan Kabbah's pledge for national
food security by the year 2007. According
to official records from the Ministry
of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security,
Bo District rice growers increased their
rice production by 100%, from about 22,000
metric tons in 2002 to 44,000 metric tons
in 2003, representing 10% of the total
national production.

War"
Retired Major Abu Noah, author, poet and
Executive Producer of one of the latest
films to be shot and produced in Sierra
Leone in recent times, "Bai Bureh
Goes to war," has given a special
preview of the movie at the Hill Station
Presidential Lodge Friday 26th March 2004.
Realised in collaboration with professional
Nigerian moviemakers, the film also featured
a largely Sierra Leonean cast and a cream
of award winning Nigerian directors and
actors, including Fred Amata, Olu Jacobs,
Omotola Jolade Ekeinde and Genevieve Nnaji.

Italian engineering contractors Salini
Costruttori, also known as SALCOST, had
resumed work on the long stalled Bumbuna
Hydro-electric project in the northern
district of Tonkolili and indications
are that the project may be ready for

its maiden test flight, beginning from

Kabbah Briefs World Bank Project Appraisal
Team
President
Ahmad Tejan Kabbah has told the visiting
World Bank Project Appraisal and Assessment
mission about the present status of the
country's roads infrastructure as well
as government's priority in further improving
the network of feeder and trunk roads
countrywide. The team, led by World Bank
Supervisor Mr. David Rudge, is in Freetown
to hold talks with government regarding
road development priorities for maximum
impact on national job creation and poverty
alleviation.

The newly accredited Ambassador of Her
Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands,

The Special Court for Sierra Leone today
opened its ultra-modern Courthouse at
the Special Court's Complex at New England
Ville in Freetown. His Excellency the

declared the Courthouse open and unveiled
the plaque commemorating the solemn occasion.

President Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah
has joined thousands of Sierra Leonean
women in the Northern Regional Headquarter
town of Makeni Monday 8th March 2004 in

Day as well as launching the report on
Building a Women's Law Reform Agenda.
The agenda, put together by the Ministry
of Social Welfare in collaboration with
the International Rescue Committee and
the National law Reform Commission, includes
the reform of local laws adversely affecting
women and girl-children in Sierra Leone

Ghana's
47th Independence Anniversary Celebrated
..The
"Made-In-Ghana Goods Exhibition"
currently underway at the Atlantic Hall
of the National Stadium in Freetown was
part of a series of activities marking
Ghana's 47th Independence Anniversary
in Sierra Leone. President Kabbah who
gave the keynote address to mark Ghana's
Independence Anniversary, also performed
the cutting of the tape at the exhibition's
opening ceremony last Saturday, 6 March
2004. He made reference to the Economic
Community of West African State's (ECOWAS)
objective for an open sub-regional market
and the free movement of peoples of all
ECOWAS countries within the sub-region.

Kabbah Opens 5-Star Kimbima Hotel
At Aberdeen

A
significant milestone in Sierra Leonean
entrepreneurship was achieved last Saturday,
following President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah's
official opening of one of Freetown's
most prestigious and luxurious hotels,
the Kimbima Hotel, located at Aberdeen
on the Atlantic seashore in the western
part of Freetown.

Kabbah At Military Athletics Competition
..President
Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah has commended
the highly positive demonstration of cordiality
between members of the Republic of Sierra
Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) and their civilian
counterparts.
Speaking shortly after he declared the
RSLAF's annual athletics competition open
at the National Stadium in Freetown on
Thursday, 4 March 2004, the Commander-in-Chief,
who was also grand chief patron at the
event, underlined the significance of
having both the military and the civilian
population co-existing amicably.

President Kabbah Celebrates 72nd Birthday
Anniversary in Kabala 
Residents
of Koinadugu District were manifestly thrilled
by President Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah's
arrival in Kabala over the weekend, Sunday
15th February, to celebrate his first birthday
ever outside Freetown since he became President
in 1996. Thousands of locals from every
part of the district, including Parliamentarians,
Paramount Chiefs, section chiefs, school
children, cultural dancers, women's groups,
members of the SLPP young generation, and
groups of banner waving well-wishers braved
the midday sun in their colourful array
of ashoebe, singing as the President touched
down at the Kabala Secondary School football
field.

Freetown
Big Market Re-opened
By President Kabbah
The one hundred and forty three-year old
Wallace Johnson Street Market, commonly
referred to as "Freetown Big Market",
was among the most notable historic edifices
in the Freetown capital that was gutted
by fire after rebel arsonists stormed the
city centre on Thursday January 7th 1999.

Kabbah and VP Berewa End Kono and Kailahun
Provincial Tour
The
President, Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah,
and Vice President Solomon Berewa returned
to Freetown Monday 9 February, concluding
a four-day extensive visit to Kono and Kailahun
Districts in Sierra Leone's eastern region.
Prominent among the important towns covered
by the visit were Yengema and Koidu in the
Kono District, Koindu, Kailahun Town, Pendembu
(the President's birthplace), Siama, Manowa,
Bunumbu, Segbwema, Baiwallah, Daru, Jojoima,
Bomaru, which experienced the first gunshots
that heralded the start of the civil conflict
on 23 March 1991, and the President's maternal
birthplace of Mobai.

Six
Children Benefit From Lady Patricia Kabbah
Scholarship Awards
Five
girl children and one boy child drawn from
various secondary schools across the country
have been awarded scholarships at the fifth
annual presentation ceremony of the Lady
Patricia Kabbah Trust Fund Awards for deserving
children. The Lady Patricia Kabbah Trust
Fund Award established in memory of the
late First Lady targets especially girl
children with the highest scores at the
National Primary School Examination (NPSE)
every year at regional level.

Sierra
Leone's Disarmament, Demobilisation and
Reintegration Programme Ends
The President, Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah,
in his capacity as chairman of the National
Committee for Disarmament, Demobilisation
and Reintegration (NCDDR), has declared
the official end of the Disarmament, Demobilisation
and Reintegration exercise, as well as the
closure of the NCDDR Executive Secretariat
to be effective from 31 March 2004 on completion
of final wrap up activities.
