Visits Abroad
His Excellency the President,
Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan
Kabbah returned to Freetown
today Monday, 29 November,
2004 after visiting
the Republics of Guinea,
Algeria and Libya on
official government
business.
On
the invitation of President
Lansana Conte of Guinea,
PresidentKabbah paid
a two-day working visit
to Guinea from Friday,
19 to 20 November. The
two Heads of State held
discussions on a very
wide range of issues,
from bilateral relations
to matters concerning
the resuscitation of
the Mano River Union
secretariat and the
security situation in
the sub-region, particularly
the crisis in Cote D'Ivoire.

Italian
Cooperation Braces to
Help West African Children
The
Italian Government in
collaboration with the
World Food Programme
(WFP), and West African
Ministers and Parliamentarians
hosted a two-day international
conference on children,
in Freetown, from the
19th-20th November,
2004.
The Conference with
theme: "From War
to Classroom. From Crisis
to Recovery. The Italian
Cooperation for West
African Children,"
was organized particularly
to discuss issues affecting
children in conflict
situations and how the
future of these children
could be saved by letting
them once more discover
their childhood.
Welcoming guests and
participants to the
conference, President
Ahmad Tejan Kabbah expressed
gratitude to the Government
of Italy, on behalf
of the Government and
the people of Sierra
Leone for choosing Sierra
Leone as a venue for
such an important conference.

Chamber
Of Commerce Presents
New Executive
The
Sierra Leone Chamber
of Commerce, Industry
and Agriculture have
presented their newly
elected executive members
to His Excellency, President
Ahmad Tejan Kabbah.
The
newly elected President
of the Chamber of Commerce,
Industry and Agriculture,
Mr. Amadu B. Ndoeka,
who was earlier introduced
by a former President
of the Chamber, Mr.
Kishore Shankerdas,
introduced the new members
of the Executive Council.
He thanked President
Kabbah on behalf of
the Chamber for granting
them a piece of land
at Water Street for
the construction of
a Chamber of Commerce
Building. Mr. Ndoeka
said the completion
of that building would
provide resources and
other facilities like
training that would
help bring together
and bridge the gap between
the formal and the non-formal
sectors of the private
sector of Sierra Leone.

Of The Nation Delegation
Calls On President
Kabbah
A
delegation of the
Children of the Nation,
an international Christian
organization, working
with children in Sierra
Leone has called on
President Ahmed Tejan
Kabbah at his Hill
Station Office in
Freetown.
Members
of the delegation
who were introduced
to the President by
Deputy Minister of
Social Welfare, Gender
and Children's Affairs,
Mrs. Memunatu Koroma,
were at the President's
office to brief him
on their activities
in Sierra Leone.

President
Kabbah At Eid-Ul-Fitri
Prayers
Eid-ul-Fitri
marking the end of the
Holy month of Ramadan
was observed in Freetown
and throughout the country
on Sunday 14th November
2004.
President Kabbah joined
other Muslims for prayers
at the National Stadium
at Brookfields, Freetown.
Other dignitaries included
Ambassador Daudi Mwakawago,
Special Representative
of the UN Secretary-General
and head of the UN mission
in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL),
Cabinet Ministers, Members
of Parliament and government
officials.

Capacity Self-Assessment
Needs Project Launched
Desertification
and land degradation
are very serious environmental
issues that have topped
national development
agendas in most countries
of the world in the
last two decades. To
address this issue,
the United Nations has
initiated three conventions
at Rio de Janeiro, the
UNCBD, the UNCCD and
the UNFCCC to bind nations
and ensure that all
member states develop
programmes that hinge
on the protection of
the environment.
The President, Alhaji
Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah,
on Thursday November
11, 2004, launched the
National Capacity self-Assessment
Needs Project for the
implementation of the
Rio Conventions.

Chief
Executives of Milestone
Company, a subsidiary
of InterLink Holdings
Company, a United Kingdom-based
company, have briefed
President Kabbah on
their activities in
Sierra Leone and new
areas they want to explore
and intervene.

Two
New Passenger Boats
Commissioned
Just
a week after His Excellency,
President Alhaji Dr.
Ahmad Tejan Kabbah Commissioned
the M.V. MURZUK, two
more boats, M.V. OPAL
and M.V. HELENA were
on Thursday, 4th November,
2004 Commissioned by
President Kabbah again.
At
the commissioning ceremony
held in the boat at
the Government Wharf
in Freetown, the Managing
Director of Sea Star
Company Limited, the
proprietor of the boats,
Mr. Maxell Fairbout
expressed gratitude
to President Kabbah
for sparing time in
his busy schedule to
grace the ceremony
