President
Kabbah Launches "SABABU" Education
Project
President
Ahmad Tejan Kabbah has formally launched
the SABABU Education Project in Kambia,
District Headquarter town of the Kambia
District in the Northern Province, kicking-off
the implementation of the largest single
investment ever in the history of the education
sector in Sierra Leone.
The government of Sierra Leone had earlier
obtained a grant from the World Bank's International
Development Association (IDA) for an Education
Project and a loan and grant from the African
Development Bank (ADB) toward the cost of
the rehabilitation of Basic/Non-Formal Education
and Vocational Skills training facilities.

Kabbah Attends Official Funeral of Late S.B.
Marah (MP)
Friday 21st November, 2003, President Ahmad
Tejan Kabbah and Vice President Berewa joined
thousands of mourners, relatives, leaders
and stalwarts of the ruling Sierra Leone People's
Party (SLPP) at the official laying-out and
funeral service of the late Honourable Sewa
Bockarie Marah, MP, at the State Hall of Parliament
Building. He passed away on Thursday 13th
November, 2003.

Kabbah At Military Passing-out For Cadets
and Recruits
Following
due consultations, Chief of Defence Staff
Brigadier General Tom Carew and his deputy,
Commodore Sesay are to be re-assigned to other
positions outside the army with effect from
1st December, 2003, President Ahmad Tejan
disclosed in a statement Thursday at the military
Passing-out Parade at Benguema marking the
commissioning of direct entry officers and
recruits.

Under Secretary For Agriculture Meets President
Kabbah
The visiting Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition,
and Consumer Services, Mr. Eric Bost, has
indicated his government's preparedness
to support the retention of especially girl
children in primary schools through the
introduction of school feeding and other
integrated programmes.

Marah's Condolence Book
Leader
of the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP),
Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, has officially
signed a special book of condolence opened
in honour of the late leader of the majority
party in the Sierra Leone House of Parliament,
Honourable Sewa Bockarie Marah, who passed
away on Thursday 13th November 2003 after
a brief illness.

Chinese
Trade Delegation Ends Visit To Sierra Leone
Following
in the heels of the Chinese Assistant Minister
of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Lu Gouzeng who visited
Freetown last week, two separate groups
of Chinese business representatives, headed
by Director General Zhao Gouqian of the
Henan Province Economic Cooperation Bureau,
left Sierra Leone Sunday after concluding
negotiations and reaching agreement with
government on a range of business investment
opportunities.

Kabbah Visits "Operation PEBU"
Sites
Last
year, Government in partnership with the
British Department for International Development
(DFID) commenced a nationwide military housing
project code-named "Operation PEBU".
The aim of "PEBU", a Mende word
denoting shelter, is to provide proper housing
conditions for military officers and other
ranks at locations other than Freetown such
as Kabala, Kambia, Gondama(near Bo), Yele,
Pujehun, Kailahun, Moyamba and Kenema following
the widespread destruction of military barrack
facilities that accompanied the almost eleven
years of civil conflict and responding to
the need to spread out the deployment of
soldiers throughout the country.

from the United Kingdom, who are currently
visiting the country, today called on the
President, Alhaji Dr Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, to
brief him about the purpose of their visit
and to seek his views on certain issues affecting
the country.

Sierra
Leone Cement Factory (LEOCEM) To Increase
Investment
The Norwegian-born Chief Executive of Leocem
Limited, Mr. Gunner Sylvesten, has told
President Kabbah at his Hill Station Lodge
about plans to significantly increase the
volume of investment in the local production
of cement, a move that is also expected
to expand the cement factory's production
capacity.

Excellency the President Alhaji Dr. Ahmad
Tejan Kabbah, has formulated the draft
of the Core Values for Sierra Leone as
a means of raising the consciousness of
Sierra Leoneans as the pillars on which
national redemption, development and progress
rest, and that if Sierra Leoneans share
a common vision and commit themselves
to a common purpose, the pace of national
development and reconciliation can be
quickened.

Meets President Kabbah
A
delegation from the West African Monetary
Institute (WAMI), led by Director General
Dr. M.O. Ojo, has called on PresidentAhmad
Tejan Kabbah's government to maintain the
current momentum towards the July 2005 deadline
set for the establishment of a Second West
African Monetary Zone (WAMZ).

The visiting Chinese Assistant Minister of
Foreign Affairs, Mr. Lu Gouzeng, has pledged
a further grant of 20 million Yuan to the
government of Sierra Leone towards the resolution
of more Chinese-funded projects in Sierra
Leone.

University (UK) Delegation Call On President
Kabbah
A
five-man visiting delegation from the University
of Bradford, UK, headed by the Director
of the African Centre in the Department
of Peace Studies, Dr. David Francis, today
expressed readiness to collaborate with
the University of Sierra Leone and the newly
established military academy in Freetown
towards developing a course curriculum on
peace education and human rights.

Leader Visits Sierra Leone
Chairman
of the National Transitional Government
and Head of State of the Republic of
Liberia His Excellency Gyude Bryant,
has expressed unreserved apologies to
the government and people of Sierra
Leone for the atrocities committed by
Liberians during Sierra Leone's decade-long
civil war. Liberian fighters and mercenaries,aided
and abetted by former President Charles
Taylor, played a pivotal role in the
Revolutionary United Front's (RUF) brutal
war unleashed on Sierra Leone, resulting
in widespread destruction, slaughter
and maiming of thousands of innocent
Sierra Leoneans.

Harvest For President
Kabbah
By
way of inspiring his compatriots to
join in the collective realisation of
his declared vision for national food
security by 2007, President Ahmad Tejan
Kabbah today commenced harvesting rice
in his 265-acre farm in Brimaya Junction,
Koya Chiefdom, some 25 miles outside
Freetown.
Sickle
in hand, President Kabbah recalled his
retirement from the United Nations system
in the early nineties as well as his
decision to take up both farming and
legal practice along with his late spouse,
Mrs. Patricia Lucy Kabbah.

Kabbah Opens Sierra Leone's First Military
Academy
Sierra
Leonean military officers like many
of their counterparts in the sub-region
now have their own local military institution
of higher learning to be proud of, as
President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah today officially
opened the Africanus Horton Armed Forces
Academy (AHAFA), located in the serene
surroundings of Leicester Square at
the foothills of Leicester Peak just
outside Freetown.
Funded
by the British government, through the
International Military Advisory and
Training Team (IMATT), the structures
include well-furnished lecture rooms,
a large multi-purpose hall and other
ancillary facilities to provide continuous
training for officers of the Republic
of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF)
throughout their career.
