President Kabbah Celebrates 72nd Birthday
Anniversary in Kabala 
Residents
of Koinadugu District were manifestly thrilled
by President Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah's
arrival in Kabala over the weekend, Sunday
15th February, to celebrate his first birthday
ever outside Freetown since he became President
in 1996. Thousands of locals from every
part of the district, including Parliamentarians,
Paramount Chiefs, section chiefs, school
children, cultural dancers, women's groups,
members of the SLPP young generation, and
groups of banner waving well-wishers braved
the midday sun in their colourful array
of ashoebe, singing as the President touched
down at the Kabala Secondary School football
field.

Freetown
Big Market Re-opened
By President Kabbah
The one hundred and forty three-year old
Wallace Johnson Street Market, commonly
referred to as "Freetown Big Market",
was among the most notable historic edifices
in the Freetown capital that was gutted
by fire after rebel arsonists stormed the
city centre on Thursday January 7th 1999.

Kabbah and VP Berewa End Kono and Kailahun
Provincial Tour
The
President, Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah,
and Vice President Solomon Berewa returned
to Freetown Monday 9 February, concluding
a four-day extensive visit to Kono and Kailahun
Districts in Sierra Leone's eastern region.
Prominent among the important towns covered
by the visit were Yengema and Koidu in the
Kono District, Koindu, Kailahun Town, Pendembu
(the President's birthplace), Siama, Manowa,
Bunumbu, Segbwema, Baiwallah, Daru, Jojoima,
Bomaru, which experienced the first gunshots
that heralded the start of the civil conflict
on 23 March 1991, and the President's maternal
birthplace of Mobai.

Six
Children Benefit From Lady Patricia Kabbah
Scholarship Awards
Five
girl children and one boy child drawn from
various secondary schools across the country
have been awarded scholarships at the fifth
annual presentation ceremony of the Lady
Patricia Kabbah Trust Fund Awards for deserving
children. The Lady Patricia Kabbah Trust
Fund Award established in memory of the
late First Lady targets especially girl
children with the highest scores at the
National Primary School Examination (NPSE)
every year at regional level.

Sierra
Leone's Disarmament, Demobilisation and
Reintegration Programme Ends
The President, Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah,
in his capacity as chairman of the National
Committee for Disarmament, Demobilisation
and Reintegration (NCDDR), has declared
the official end of the Disarmament, Demobilisation
and Reintegration exercise, as well as the
closure of the NCDDR Executive Secretariat
to be effective from 31 March 2004 on completion
of final wrap up activities.
