University
Of Sierra Leone Convocation
His Excellency the
President, Alhaji
Dr. Ahmad Tejan
Kabbah today Saturday,
18th December 2004,
conferred degrees
and approved the
award of diplomas
and certificates
to graduands at
the annual congregation
of the University
of Sierra Leone,
held at the Adjai
Crowther Amphitheatre
at Fourah Bay College
on Mount Aureol.
Two graduands, Mr.
Abdulai Kakay, Managing
Director of the
Sierra Leone Commercial
Bank and Mr. Kishore
Shankerdas, an industrialist
and a naturalised
Sierra Leonean of
Indian extraction,
received honorary
Doctor of Laws (DCL)
degrees for outstanding
services rendered
in their respective
fields and for their
support to educational
institutions in
Sierra Leone.
The ceremony which
commenced at 10:00am
witnessed a dramatic
increase in the
number of graduands
at all levels and
in more diversified
disciplines. With
the Police band
in attendance the
University Court
and Senate joined
by the Chancellor,
President Kabbah,
processed to the
amphitheatre amid
a large crowd of
spectators and officials.
The congregation
came to a close
at 2:00pm

Annual Chamber Of
Commerce Dinner
President
Alhaji Dr. Ahmad
Tejan Kabbah was
Guest of Honour
and keynote speaker
at the 43rd Annual
Dinner of the Sierra
Leone Chamber of
Commerce, Industry
and Agriculture
held on Thursday
16 December 2004
at the Bank of Sierra
Leone complex, Kingtom
in Freetown.
The
other speaker was
Amadu Ndoeka, current
President of the
Chamber while Lamin
Manjang, Managing
Director of Standard
Chatered Bank(SL),
gave the Vote of
Thanks.
The
chamber is an association
of businesses
registered in Sierra
Leone and acts as
a forum to provide
private sector-led
development and
growth through discussions,
experence-sharing,
organisational learning
and a variety of
partnerships and
alliance-building
approaches among
local and with international
businesses in order
to encourage public-private
co-operation and
ventures and act
as a catalyst and
an engine of growth
for businesses and
enterpreneurship
in the country generally.

Anti-Corruption Day
Sierra
Leone joined other
nations worldwide
to celebrate the first
annual International
Anti-Corruption Day
on 10th December 2004.
Members of the diplomatic
Corps, senior government
officials and other
dignitaries from civil
society including
school children graced
the occasion, which
was organized by the
Anti-Corruption Commission
in Freetown.

With Wife, Ends Visit
President Horst
Kohler and Mrs.
Eva Luise Kohler
and members of the
visiting German
delegation were
on Monday night,
6th December, 2004,
guests of honour
at a State Banquet
held in their honour
at State House in
Freetown. President
Kabbah while extending
a warm and hearty
welcome to President
Koehler and Mrs.
Koehler and the
delegation, noted
that the timing
of the visit of
President Koehler
was particularly
appropriate as Sierra
Leone is just emerging
from a decade-long
conflict, especially
at at a time when
the country is reaching
out to friends and
international partners
to assist in its
reconstruction efforts
and to strengthen
existing relations
and build new ones.

New
International Commercial
Bank Opens in Freetown
As
efforts to rebuild
war-torn Sierra Leone
intensifies, well-meaning
development partners
from all over the
world are doing their
best to be part of
these rebuilding efforts.
The International
Commercial Bank Financial
Holdings Limited,
a Malaysian financial
company, has opened
a new branch in Freetown.
The International
Commercial Bank (Sierra
Leone) Limited was
on Wednesday, 8th
December, 2004 officially
opened by His Excellency,
the President, Alhaji
Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah
The founder of the
International Commercial
Bank Ltd., Mr. Tun
Daim Zainuddin flew
into Sierra Leone
from Malaysia to witness
this historic event.

President Visits Sierra
Leone
The
President of the Federal
Republic of Germany,
Professor Dr. Horst
Koehler, arrived in
Freetown today on
a three-day state
visit.
On arrival at the
Lungi International
Airport, President
Koehler was received
by His Excellency,
the President of the
Republic of Sierra
Leone, Alhaji Dr.
Ahmad Tejan Kabbah.
