President Kabbah Inaugrates New Cement Mill

The President, Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, accompanied by Cabinet Ministers and a host of senior government officials officially inaugrated Leocem's new cement mill which has four times more capacity than the old mill.
In his address President Kabbah said that he was proud to be there to inaugurate the new mill that can now produce 40,000 bags of cement a day. "This will go a long way in meeting the country's increased demand for cement in our thriving construction industry" he said and went further to say that the inauguration of this new mill is a clear indication that our country has made great strides in the area of Private Sector Development since the end of the war."

"I want to thank LEOCEM for this demonstration of confidence in the country and in my Government's Private Sector Development policy. I am pleased that the company's managers have emphasized the cooperation and support they continue to receive from Government. This is how it should be, because the role of the Ministry of Trade and Industry is to play a facilitating and supporting role for business to thrive and expand as LEOCEM has done. I understand that this LEOCEM expansion investment is over nine million US dollars with the new mill"s capacity of 420,000 tons per annum", President Kabbah said.
According to the General Manager of Leocem, Arne Birger Johansen, "Every truck will be loaded three times faster than we used to. The new technology will also allow us to offer different qualities and grades of cement to satisfy the diverse demand expected."

Mr Johansen continued, "It has been amazing to see the development that has taken place in Sierra Leone after the return of government in 1998 from exile in Guinea. Everywhere you turn you see new commercial buildings coming up, new residences being built in all parts of the country".
