Kenema
High Court
Opens
Continuing his series of nationwide
launching and commissioning of newly
constructed and rehabilitated infrastructure,
President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah officially
opened the new Kenema dual purpose High
Court building, which many have described
as an architectural first class job
on Friday 30th April 2004
The erection of the court is part of
the British-assisted Law Development
Project for Sierra Leone that began
in January 2001.

Rokel
Commercial Bank Presents Dividend
The
outgoing Chairman of the Rokel Commercial
Bank, formerly Barclays Bank Limited,
Mr. A. Dunstan M'cormack, has officially
presented to President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah
a cheque worth Le. 1.998,743,000 (one
billion, nine hundred and ninety eight
million, seven hundred and forty three
thousand) being 51% dividend payable
to government for the year ending 31st
December 2003.

Kabbah Honours Thirty-Four Sierra Leoneans
As
part of Sierra Leone's 43rd Independence
Anniversary celebrations at State House
in Freetown Tuesday 27th April 2004,
President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah honoured
thirty-four Sierra Leoneans and organisations
with much coveted National Awards at
a well-attended and colourful investiture
ceremony characterised by its traditional
pomp and pageantry.

Sierra
Leone's 43rd Independence Anniversary
On
the occasion
of the 43rd Independence Day Anniversary
of Sierra Leone today 27th April 2004,
President Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah,
travelled by helicopter with Vice President
Solomon Berewa to Gbangbatoke in the Moyamba
District, birthplace of the late Sir Albert
Michael Margai KCMG, second Prime Minister
of Sierra Leone from 1964 to 1967, where
a graveside service was held in honour
of the deceased.

Kabbah Inducted As Honorary
Alumnus of Government Secondary School
Kenema
The alumni association of the Government
Secondary School Kenema (GSSK), has inducted
President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah as the first
honorary alumnus of the school during
an impressive ceremony held at the school
grounds on Friday 23rd April 2004.

issues that are critical to Sierra Leone's
reconstruction programme," during
his meeting with a group of senior officials
of the European Commission (EC) at the
Commission headquarters in Brussels, Friday

Madeleine Albright
President
Ahmad Tejan Kabbah arrived in Istanbul,
capital of the Turkish Republic Sunday
11th April 2004 ahead of the opening of
the first four day Congress of Democrats
from the Islamic World at the Conference
Centre of the Conrad Hotel in Istanbul.

Greek
Envoy Presents Credentials
The
newly accredited Greek ambassador to Sierra
Leone, His Excellency Mr. Christoforos
Giovas, has said that the government of
the Hellenic Republic would include Sierra
Leonean military officers in its military
scholarship scheme by the next academic
year. Ambassador Giovas, who made the
commitment on the occasion of the presentation
of his credentials at the Presidential
Lodge Tuesday, 6th April 2004, indicated
that proposals in respect of the scholarships
would be made shortly after returning
to his base in Abuja, Nigeria.

Exchanges For Bo, Kenema And
Lungi
President
Ahmad Tejan Kabbah has made public his
displeasure about the non-performance
over the past years of the board and management
of the Sierra Leone Telecommunications
Company (Sierratel), charging that corporate
financial malpractices had even made it
impossible for the company to pay dividends
to government since he became President
in 1996.

Kabbah Commissions New Rice Mill In Bo
Farmers
in Bo District have made a significant
contribution in response to President
Ahmad Tejan Kabbah's pledge for national
food security by the year 2007. According
to official records from the Ministry
of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security,
Bo District rice growers increased their
rice production by 100%, from about 22,000
metric tons in 2002 to 44,000 metric tons
in 2003, representing 10% of the total
national production.

Bank Team Nods War On HIV/AIDS
Mr.
Malonga Miatudila, leader of the World
Bank mission evaluating progress on
the Sierra Leone HIV/AIDS Response Project
(SHARP), has indicated his satisfaction
with the general level of awareness
of the HIV/AIDS pandemic during a meeting
with President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah at
the Hill Station Lodge Thursday 1st
April 2004.
